To promote their upcoming sophomore album The Space Between, which drops this Friday (October 27), OVO duo Majid Jordan decided to stop by the Hot 97 studios in NYC this week and chop it up with Ebro In The Morning for a rare video interview.
Sitting down for a 20-minute conversation, Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman talked about album’s title & how every track has a big cohesiveness in track sequence. “This whole thing [album] is seamless. I did all the transitions. It flows, you're not supposed to know when track 3 ends and when track 4 finishes,” Jordan said. “It’s the space between.”
“The name is open for interpretation. It can mean a lot of things.” Majid later said. “It could mean like the space between truth and fiction, reality & perception. The “space between us” and people.” Majid added. “When the name came to us it felt a lot like a place like this.”
In addition to the album talk, the OVO duo also talked about their friendship with DVSN & PartyNextDoor, and not following any trends in music to get so-called “hot.”
“Sometimes it's difficult to live in the world and not be influenced by like having the hottest shit or the hottest sound or anything.” Jordan said. “So I just focused on making good music that we’re going to listen to in 10 years. I just wanted to make things that weren't gonna get tiring or anything,” he added.
